I have lived and worked in Merritt for the last 12 years. I respectfully acknowledge I am a white settler on the un-ceded, ancestral, and traditional lands of the Nlaka'pamux’ and Syilx Nations and feel honoured that these beautiful lands are where I live, work and play.
I was born and raised in Prince Rupert, BC and am an ocean girl at heart. Water is extremely important to me and being close to water helps bring a sense of peace. In 2010, I moved to Merritt after completing my Master of Social Work degree from the University of Northern BC and joined the team at Nicola Family Therapy. Since moving to Merritt, I have found a new connection to water through spending time with my family at Nicola Lake and the Coldwater River.
Today, I am the Executive Director of Nicola Family Therapy. I am a Registered Social Worker in BC. I have 25 years of experience working with clients who have experienced trauma, abuse within relationships, childhood abuse, and survivors of sexual abuse. I continue to work with clients on a daily basis because that is where my true passion lies. I work with adult individuals, couples, and families.
I work from a strengths-based, trauma informed, client centered approach. I believe every person is the expert when it comes to their own lives, and I work to meet clients where they are at. My approach to counselling emphasizes compassionate engagement, collaboration, and confidentiality. My warm, respectful, and genuine therapeutic style creates the necessary safety and trust for your personal journey of healing and wellness. I will work with you to help you identify areas in your life you are needing assistance with and walk along side of you in your healing journey.
My most cherished role in life, is one of a mother. I am blessed to have one son and he truly is my miracle. Outside of work, I love to spend time with my son, walk my yellow Labrador, and engage in creative activities whenever possible.
“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we’ll ever do.” – Brene Brown
